Castle Quest 8: The F(r)og

The 8th and bulkiest of all Castle Quest paper adventure games, weighing in at almost 1kg and containing more than 100 hand-drawn pages. It was heavily inspired by The 7th Guest, which was just released in Belgium at that point. Also features a considerable typo in the title, as the game was about fog, not about frogs. Whoops.

because this game succeeds Castle Quest 7, one of the most beloved entries in the series, Maan Studio decided to take a different approach with this game. The times they were a changin’, and the low price of paper allowed for new paper adventure technological advancements. Because of this, Castle Quest 8 featured tons of cutscenes, which were painstakingly hand-drawn page by page, resulting in a huge strain on the environment but also some rather cool effects, unseen at that time in graphic paper adventures:

Yup.

This game was followed up by the slightly less paper-heavy Castle Quest 9.
